An aggressive driver from Austria led several police patrols in a chase through Stupava and Malacky in Bratislava Region on September 8, the police department announced the following day.
“The incident started about 1:00, when a police patrol in Malacky noticed a vehicle endangering other drivers,” Bratislava regional police spokesperson Karina Považanová told the TASR newswire. She added that the patrol attempted to get the vehicle to pull over, but the driver did not respond to police requests.
In Stupava, the police blocked the road and asked the driver to surrender. Still behind the wheel, he managed to flee and the police fired warning shots and before shooting out the tires of the car. The driver was finally apprehended on the D2 highway, heading north toward the Czech Republic. The driver of the vehicle was a 47-year-old Austrian citizen, said Považanová, adding that the case is currently under review by the Police Directorate in Malacky.
