July’s industrial output up 2%, construction down 6%

Slovak industry continued to grow modestly in annual terms in July. Adjusted for working days, industrial output rose 2 percent in July, according to the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ). Compared to June, industrial production slowed 0.8 percentage points. Slovak industry expanded 2.6 percent year-on-year on average in the January-July period.
Adjusted for seasonal influences, industrial output went up 0.1 percent compared to June. The year-on-year rise reported in July is attributable to a 3.8 percent increase in industrial manufacturing and 1.6 percent growth in mining and quarrying.
Output of supplies of electricity, natural gas, steam and cool air dropped 10.2 percent year-on-year, the SITA newswire wrote. In July, industrial manufacturing was influenced particularly by improvements in the following areas: production of electrical devices (+51.6 percent); production of textile, clothing, leather and leather-ware (+43.8 percent); production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere (+10.2 percent); production of metals and metal constructions except for machinery and equipment (+4 percent); and production of rubber-made goods, plastics and other non-metallic mineral products (+5 percent).
On the other hand, output shrank in production of means of transport (-5.1 percent) and production of coke and refined crude oil products (-11.7 percent). On average, industrial manufacturing grew 3.1 percent in seven months. Supplies of electricity, natural gas, steam and cool air rose 0.1 percent, while output in mining and quarrying was 1.2 percent lower.
Construction output amounted to €434.8 million in July 2013 and fell by 6.1 percent year-on-year. Adjusted for seasonal influences, construction output in July 2013 was 0.8 percent higher than in June. Output of the construction industry dwindled by 10.1 percent year-on-year to €2.291 billion during the first seven months of this year, SITA quoted the ŠÚ on September 10.
July's output generated in Slovakia declined 6.9 percent in annual terms to €414.8 million. Its share in overall construction production went down 0.8 percentage points to 95.4 percent. Output generated abroad increased in July 13.6 percent year-on-year to €20 million and contributed 4.6 percent to the total construction output. Over the first seven months of this year, construction output generated in Slovakia sank by 10.4 percent to €2.156 billion.
