Bratislava mayor to lose six-months salary due to post with Komunálna poisťovňa
12 Sep 2013 Flash News
Bratislava Mayor Milan Ftáčnik (independent, with Smer support) will pay back thousands of euros after city councillors decided September 12 that his board position for an insurance company was a conflict of interest.
His board role Komunálna Poisťovňa insurance company, the SITA newswire wrote, is a conflict of interest while acting as mayor. The only exception to such rules can be membership or positions in a company in which the city has a share. Komunálna poisťovňa a.s. is owned by the Vienna Insurance Group. After the case was publicised in June, Ftáčnik left the post and promised to return the €10,000 he earned.
Ftáčnik accepted the city council decision and said he would not appeal. He will pay a fine of more than €27,000. Ftáčnik stressed, as quoted by the TASR newswire, that under his remit, Bratislava signed no contract with Komunálna poisťovňa.
