Court bans TV Markíza from reporting on financing of Malacky hospital
13 Sep 2013 Flash News
The private TV channel Markíza was banned by the Malacky District Court from reporting on the financing of the local hospital in Malacky until a related lawsuit is concluded. The court approved the proposal filed by a company called Nemocničná that owns the hospital and is suing Markíza.
According to the preliminary injunction, Markíza must refrain from the production and broadcasting of any report following up on previous news reports made by reporter Barbora Demešová entitled “BSK Gives Millions to Private Company” and “Frešo Running Away From Our Camera”, the Sme daily wrote on September 12.
The decision is scandalous and outrageous, former TV Markíza personality, culture minister (2010-12) and now independent MP Daniel Krajcer said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. Krajcer stressed that such a verdict represents an unprecedented level of censorship and violates freedom of the press.
