THEATRE:
THE HIP-HOP version of Shakespearian classic Romeo and Juliet, titled Julio and Romea, will premier in the Slovak National Theatre (SND)’s historical building on Hviezdoslavovo Square 4 in Bratislava on September 17 (and 18) at 19:00. This co-production of the SND and the Strike Force 1 dance company features soloists Laci Strike and Soňa Ferancová in an innovative and genre-blending performance, transforming this famous tragedy into a tragicomedy. The Slovak National Gallery’s (SNG) Thursday Art Talk series is dedicated to English speakers who want to know more about Slovak visual art. WISH-COME-TRUE:
The 4th year of the charity event Deň želaní / The Day of Wishes 2013 grants the wishes of seriously ill children, and also helps to fulfil the wishes of people who buy a dove balloon, the proceeds of which go to the children’s wishes. The programme, hosted by Maroš Szalay, will feature the release of the dove balloons, singing by Miro Jaroš and Dominika Mirgová, music by G-String Trio and performances by children’s folklore ensembles.

Snovonne – This UK-based Slovak singer, composer and producer has embarked on a European tour with her latest studio album The Nightmare Bride, with a stop in Bratislava. Módu nezastavíš / You Can’t Stop Fashion – Four Slovak fashion designers, Lucia Cabanová, Dana Kleinert, Izabela Komjati and Michaela Mazalanová, present their perception of national identity in the textile industry, a different heritage of Slovak folklore and artisan skills as reflected in a shift towards modern design. Part of the exhibition, curated by Zuzana Šidlíková, also presents the work of the youngest generation of graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.

MATER is the name of an award-winning composition by Slovak musician Vladimír Godár which celebrates the Christian concept of the mother archetype. Most of the pieces that make up the modern classical composition were written specifically for Czech singer Ivana Bittová, who will perform with the Solamente Naturali ensemble at the concert on September 21 at 19:00 in the New Synagogue on Kuzmányho 1 in Žilina.
