EU-harmonised inflation reached 1.4 percent year-on-year in August, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) announced on September 16. Average harmonised inflation for the 12-month period up to August amounted to 2.4 percent year-on-year.
August’s figure constituted a moderate drop from July, as EU-harmonised inflation - measured through the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices - amounted to 1.6 percent year-on-year that month, the TASR newswire quoted the ŠÚ.
The month-on-month figures in August were influenced mainly by downward price developments in the sectors of food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 0.21 percentage points), in recreation and culture (0.04 percentage points), and in clothing and footwear and postal and telecommunications services (both 0.03 percentage points). Meanwhile, the following sectors increased the overall rate - alcoholic beverages and tobacco and miscellaneous goods and services (both by 0.04 percentage points), transport (0.03 percentage points), and health care and hotels, cafes and restaurants (both 0.01 percentage points).
