19 Sep 2013 Flash News
Forty-six heads of greater-district environmental offices will leave their posts by the end of September after the government approved their dismissal on September 18. The decision as part of ESO public administration reform (the abbreviation stands for effective, reliable and open government).
As of October 2013, 248 local self-government offices will close down and 72 new district offices will subsequently created (Bratislava and Košice will have one district office each), with their heads directly appointed by the government. Along with those of the greater-district environmental offices, the activities of the regional offices for road transport, forestry, land and land registry will fall under newly created integrated offices with a new name.
The first phase of the ESO reform saw the abolition of 64 specialised regional offices, whose responsibilities were shifted to other state institutions as of January of this year. [Greater-district offices come below regional state administration offices, often grouping a number of districts - ed. note]
