Public broadcasting council issues fines over advertising

The Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission, which is tasked with monitoring public broadcasting, gave fines amounting to thousands of euros at its October 8 session. In total, four financial fines and six warnings fines were imposed to Slovak broadcasters and retransmission operators.
The highest fine, €4,000, was imposed on the private broadcaster of the TV Markíza for having violated the rule on sound intensity of advertising during the broadcast of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” on March 31, Ľubomír Kukliš of the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission informed the SITA newswire.
Another broadcaster, TV JOJ, was fined for exceeding the allowed number of ads during the Miss Slovensko 2013 beauty contest in April (€3,500). Also the public Radio and Television, RTVS, received a fine of €1,000 – for not placing the due graphic symbol JSO to the shows Raj pre Dvoch and Na Krok od Neba in its programme schedule. The last fine went (€500) to the retransmission broadcaster ANTIK Telecom, s.r.o. for rendering the retransmission of several programme services through IPTV without the consent of their original broadcaster. Ten warnings about violations of law of the Council went to MAC TV, RTVS, ANTIK Telecom, s.r.o., SPINOZA, s.r.o., Nitra, Videoštúdio RIS, spol. s r.o. a BP Media, s.r.o., SITA wrote.
