Electoral Commission for regional elections sworn in

Thirteen members of the Central Electoral Commission (ÚVK) for the upcoming regional – or as officially called “Higher Territorial Units (VÚC)” – were sworn in October 16,
The first round of the election is due November 9 in all eight of the country’s regions. Should no candidate for regional governor receive more than half of the votes, then there will be a run-off November 23. This will likely be the last such regional election in Slovakia, as the government has announced its intention to return to three – east, central and west – regions rather than eight.
ÚVK called on the district election committees to enable citizens to be present during counting the votes. The committee did so at its very first session on October 16, the SITA newswire wrote.
