THE JUDCIAL Council selected three candidates for the judge’s post at the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR), which Slovakia is required to provide to the Council of Europe, the TASR newswire reported on December 2.
The three nominated candidates are Associate Dean of Comenius University’s law school Ondrej Laciak, the Slovak government’s agent before the ECHR Marica Pirošíková and judge Andrea Krisková.
The candidates were chosen in a second selection process after none of the nominated candidates from back in January passed the first selection process at the Council of Europe, TASR wrote.
Originally, seven candidates applied for the current selection round, but two candidates withdrew their candidacy prior to the selection. The new nominees must now be approved by the Slovak Government and then by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which will have the final word.
The current judge of the ECHR for the Slovak Republic, Ján Šikuta, finished his term on October 31 this year but will continue to work until he is replaced by a new judge.
