“SCIENCE For a Better Life” was the theme of the ninth and final edition of the Ecology in Focus photo contest, whose aim is to boost public interest in science, research and innovations in sustainable development and environmental protection. Amateur and professional photographers from Slovakia and the Czech Republic submitted almost 1,000 images this year, said Bayer, the company that organised the contest, in its press release.
The jury, consisting of experts in the environment and photography, selected nine winners, whose names and works were revealed on November 6.
“I have been participating in the evaluation of the Ecology in Focus contest for the whole nine years, since its very beginning,” said Milota Havránková, a prominent Slovak photographer and the chairwoman of the jury, as cited in the press release, adding that this year’s works showed that the competitors really tried to address the theme.
Jan Pohribný, a prominent Czech photographer and a member of the jury, agreed, adding that images submitted this year exceeded the common framework of what one could imagine under the theme Science for a Better Life.
This was the last year Bayer organised the Ecology in Focus photo contest, while the company will continue with its activities related to the environment as part of its corporate responsibility activities.
