16 Jan 2014 Flash News
Police have pressed charges against a man identified only as Ján, 52, of Nové Mesto nad Váhom who allegedly robbed a jewellery store in Bratislava on January 14 and killed a man and injured his wife in the process.
“The 66-year-old storeowner was shot in the leg and arm and, despite the effort of paramedics, died on the spot. His wife, three years his junior, suffered gunshot wound in the arm and buttock, and was rushed to hospital,” Bratislava Regional Police spokeswoman Karina Považanová told the TASR newswire. The woman had to undergo surgery and is in stable condition, according to Health Ministry spokeswoman Martina Lidinská.
“Due to an as-yet unknown reason, the accused opened fire on the 66-year-old man and 63-year-old woman,” said Považanová.
Both victims were Armenians. Police detained the robber a few minutes after the attack and will keep him in custody. If convicted, the man faces up to 15 years in prison.
