CONCERT:
GERMAN-JAPANESE cellist Danjulo Ishizaka will play in the Slovak capital. On January 30 and 31 at 19:00, the acclaimed musician (laureate of the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award and winner of ARD international music competition in 2001) will perform the works of Edward Elgar, William Walton and Richard Strauss, accompanied by the Slovak Philharmonic and conducted by Rastislav Štúr. Lou Reed Tribute – This concert pays tribute to the legendary musician who died last October. The performers include the Czech Velvet Underground Revival Band, who accompanied Reed and other Velvet Underground members live in the Czech Republic and France; as well as Slovak bands Kosa z Nosa and Med.

The Art and Nature of Medieval Europe - The Slovak National Gallery’s (SNG) Thursday Art Talk series is dedicated to English speakers and this edition presents different medieval artpieces from Musée du Cluny in Paris, led by the curator, Dušan Buran.

Classical Modernism – Modern Classics – Zádory – Topalovic is a noteworthy Austrian-based duo playing violin and cello, which brings new ideas and creativity into contemporary classical music. Nu:Classic – This two-day event is dedicated to modern classical music, with the first evening focusing on German composer and musician, Nils Frahm, who combines traditional instruments with electronic and sampled urban sounds. FESTIVAL:
THE SECOND winter edition of the gourmet festival Zimný Festival Jedla / Winter Food Festival, takes place at several venues simultaneously, offering a range of top restaurants of Slovakia’s all eight regions, including a ‘High Tatras route’ and a host of restaurants within a ‘Košice route’ on February 1 in Košice (e.g. Allegro; Hotel Bristol; Camelot steak restaurant; Dália Restaurant, Hotel Maratón; Reštaurácia a penzión Baránok; Villa Regia restaurant & pen-zion). There are vouchers to be bought and the menu combinations to be ordered in advance. There will also be special Gurman buses, enabling people to visit several restaurants in one weekend. EXHIBITION/SCRAP RECYCLING:
The unique metal zoo, a collection of animal figures made from scrap metal, is on display in the shopping cen-tre. There are also accompanying events, mostly workshops on how to create artwork from common waste or to make cardboard furniture – on Wed-nesdays to Saturdays between 17:00 and 19:00.
