THE 10TH year of the festival that presents the best of contemporary Slovak theatre each year has announced its nine nominations.

After the committee (theatre critics Elena Knopová, Zuzana Uličianska and dramatic advisor Marek Godovič) saw performances all around Slovakia between November and March, they selected from among productions that premiered between March 1, 2013 and January 31, 2014, with scripts written no earlier than the year 2000.

The nine finalists include both big theatres (the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin, the State Theatre in Košice) and smaller houses, including the amateur Pôtoň – Centre of Art and Creativity in Bátovce.

The Nová Dráma / New Drama 2014 festival, which will take place between May 12 and 17 in Bratislava (organised by the Theatre Institute and the Bratislava City Theatre), will have an international jury select winners in several categories, including the Grand Prix Nová Dráma, the Student Jury Award and the Award of the Bratislava Audience. The Focus Hungary section will present Hungarian theatrical productions.

A host of events will accompany the main competition, many of which will be held in English, the organisers informed. The performances shown at the festival will have English subtitles, too. More updated information can be found at the novadrama.sk website.
