Police: Polish paedophile not relocated to Slovakia
18 Feb 2014 Flash News
DISPROVING rumours allegedly spread by an anonymous source in Poland that convicted Polish paedophile and murderer Mariusz Trynkiewicz, recently released from prison, was sent to Slovakia, Slovak Police President Tibor Gašpar confirmed on February 17 that the Pole is not in the country.
“He was not on Slovak territory, nor is he supposed to be there now,” Gašpar said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. He added that Slovak police were in communication with their Polish counterparts about Trynkiewicz’s potential whereabouts, and he is still alleged to be in Poland.
Trynkiewicz, a four-time child rapist and murderer who was sentenced to death in 1988 but whose sentence was later changed to 25 years in prison, was released last week from a Polish prison. Facing threats against his life, Polish authorities gave him a new identity, passport, accommodation and means of living.
Again, disproving the news that Slovakia would accept Trynkiewicz due to a bilateral agreement in the programme of protected witnesses, Gašpar explained that this contract does not entail accepting released prisoners. Even if he was to be sent to Slovakia, Polish police would have to file a request with Slovak authorities, to be approved by the police president.
“We have received no such request, I have not signed any such request and there was no communication concerning such contracts,” Gašpar added. Asked how police would proceed if Trynkiewicz arrived in Slovakia, Gašpar answered that Slovak police could only intervene if he broke the law on Slovak territory.
