A STABLE economy and sustainable employment would be impossible without the steel industry, the Economy Ministry said in its action plan for a competitive and sustainable steel industry in Slovakia, submitted for interdepartmental review on March 19.

“The steel industry creates the basis for the development and the creation of values of many crucial industrial fields, like metallurgy, construction, automotive production, engineering and the energy sector,” the ministry wrote in the report, as cited by the TASR newswire.

According to the Economy Ministry, the government is interested in keeping steel production in Slovakia at the current level and it agrees with defining it as strategic industrial field.

The ministry also stressed the importance of steel production in research and development, in the area of new materials and new types of steel, as well as in regional development, including education, health care, culture and sports, as reported by TASR.
