Fire near Betliar extinguished, five hectares of land charred

Firefighters put out a forest fire close to the village of Betliar in Košice Region after containing the blaze and spending all of March 22 extinguishing it.

Firefighters put out a forest fire close to the village of Betliar in Košice Region after containing the blaze and spending all of March 22 extinguishing it.

The Košice Firefighters and Emergency Corps informed the TASR newswire the next day that the situation was being monitored. “All units have been withdrawn, with only three of our members left behind to monitor the situation,” a Košice Firefighters and Emergency Corps spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 14:00 on March 21. Dozens of firefighters from Banská Bystrica, Košice and Prešov regions, along with a Slovak Armed Forces helicopter, were despatched to the site, where flames engulfed approximately five hectares of land.
