PRESIDENT Ivan Gašaparovič is convinced that there is no threat of a conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he said following the April 23 session of the Security Council, which he attended.

Slovakia is capable of securing its own territory in the current situation and there is no need to place alliance forces in Slovakia’s military bases.

“I believe there is no need to consider situations as you suggested in the future,” he said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.

Gašparovič is meeting the representatives of the EU and the member states in Prague to discuss the situation in Ukraine. He will promote the same opinions as Slovakia has so far: Slovakia is ready to help Ukraine as far as its possibilities allow, in order not to harm its own economy.
