JobExpo opens in Nitra, 13,000 jobs up for grabs

More than 100 Slovak companies and 16 firms from abroad are offering a total of 13,000 jobs at the two-day JobExpo 2014 that opened at the Agrokomplex exhibition facility in Nitra on April 29.
The 22nd year of the presentation and sale exhibition of products made by students of secondary vocational and professional schools, Mladý Tvorca/ Young Creator is also underway. Schools are offering their products, from cakes, from pastry through shoes, to jewels, furniture, glass or wrought iron products.
Prime Minister Robert Fico at the ceremonial opening stated that the government aims to lower unemployment rate in Slovakia to the eurozone average, which is oscillating around 12 percent. According to Labour Minister Ján Richter, the developments in the eurozone haven’t been as optimistic as in Slovakia. Fico noted, as quoted by the TASR newswire, that the government is launching a project called “Initiative for Young People” in co-operation with the European Commission. [According to a recent Government report, around 34 percent of the young people in Slovakia were jobless at the end of 2012, which made the country the sixth-worst in the EU in this respect. - ed. note]
