AROUND 2,000 people participated in the ‘Take a Bike Ride with Peter Sagan’ event in Bratislava on April 26, at which the Slovak cycling star received a medal made at the Paris Mint from French Ambassador to Slovakia Didier Lopinot.
Sagan received the award for defending the Green Jersey (for winning the points classification) in last year’s Tour de France.
“Peter Sagan made Slovakia famous in this race,” the French ambassador told the TASR newswire. “I believe that he’s making a good name not only for Slovakia but for cycling, as such, too.”
According to Petržalka borough authority spokesperson Michaela Patznerová, the rainy weather “didn’t spoil the excellent atmosphere of the event”. She added that the cycling star attracted many families with small children.
“It was a huge thing, mainly for the little ones, to meet such a champion,” said Patznerová.
