Zajac became new KDH caucus chairman, replacing Hrušovský
14 May 2014 Flash News
Pavol Zajac is the new chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) caucus. He was proposed by KDH Chairman Ján Figeľ, the TASR newswire wrote.
Zajac filled the post freed by Pavol Hrušovský who resigned after his poor showing in the presidential election.
“I want to manage the caucus in a way that we fulfil the role of consistent opposition,” Zajac told TASR. “We will criticise all draft bills that the government will prepare to the detriment of citizens; and on the contrary, we will propose laws so that the life of citizens on Slovakia is improved.”
Zajac got seven votes in the election, the SITA newswire informed. The other candidate was Pavol Abrhan who resigned from the post of party vice-chair in April; he was supported by six KDH MPs. The KDH caucus was without chairman for more than a month, after Hrušovský resigned on April 7. He won only 3.3 percent of total votes in the first round of presidential election, and Abrhan was politically responsible for the presidential campaign. However, Abrhan plans to re-run for the vice-chair again in September.
