THE OFFICE of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region has printed a new magazine reminiscent of the controversial newspaper Náš Kraj (Our Region), which is currently under scrutiny by police. Regional representatives say that Bystrický Kraj (Bystrica Region), as the new paper is called, consists of promotional and informational material whose printing was funded from money approved by the regional councillors, the TASR newswire reported on May 19.

Back in April, several Slovak media outlets reported about an issue of the Our Region monthly paper that contained articles praising the Nazi-allied wartime Slovak state and its president Jozef Tiso. The regional councillors later halted the newspaper’s funding. Moreover, police launched an investigation into the content of the magazine due to suspicions of denying and approving of the Holocaust and crimes committed by political regimes.

“Bystrica Region is promotional and information material of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region,” region spokesperson Miroslav Belička told TASR. He added that its printing was financed with money allocated and approved for printing promotional and information material.

Bystrica Region informs about the recent activities of Banská Bystrica Governor Marian Kotleba, including his meeting with mayors from the Brezno district, the security situation in the Horehronie region, the continuing protests against gold mining and the creation of 45 new jobs in Jelšava, TASR wrote.
