SLOVAK President Ivan Gašparovič, together with Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, will attend the inauguration of Ukraine’s new president Petro Poroshenko on June 7, the TASR newswire reported.
Other prominent world leaders and representatives of countries have already confirmed they will attend the ceremony, among them US Vice President Joe Biden and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy. The list of top officials who have already accepted the invitation also includes Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite and Swiss President and Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Chairperson-in-Office Didier Burkhalter.
Top representatives of Georgia, Moldova and Germany were also invited. Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, was not invited, TASR wrote.
Poroshenko, who due to his involvement in the confectionary business is often nicknamed “the Chocolate King”, was elected on May 25, receiving 54.7 percent of the vote in the first round of the election.
