SLOVAKIA registered a first-quarter foreign trade surplus of €1.233 billion, which is almost the same as what the country recorded the first three months of 2013, when it was only €15 million less, the SITA newswire reported, citing the revised data of the Statistics Office.
In March alone, the surplus was €340.9 million. Exports in March increased by 5.5 percent to €5.569 billion and total imports by 8.2 percent to €5.229 billion.
After three months of this year the Slovak Republic had the highest surplus in trade with Germany, worth €1.571 billion, followed by the UK with €719.9 million, Poland with €632.8 million and the neighbouring Czech Republic with €558.5 million.
On the other hand, Slovakia had the largest trade deficits with the Republic of Korea, worth €1.065 billion, as well as €1.043 billion with the Russian Federation and €748.4 million with China.
Exports from the Slovak Republic in the first quarter totalled €16.033 billion. Compared with the first quarter of 2013, total exports increased by 6.1 percent. Imports to the Slovak Republic totalled €14.8 billion in a year-on-year increase of 6.5 percent.
