Remeta will reportedly build Višňové tunnel
10 Jun 2014 Flash News
THE CONSTRUCTION company Dúha, owned by businessman Miroslav Remeta, will build the longest highway tunnel in Slovakia, the Višňové, the Hospodárske Noviny daily reported in its June 10 issue. The state took 16 years to select the winner in the competition.
“Everything indicates that by the end of this week we will sign an agreement over the construction of the Višňové tunnel,” Transport Minister Ján Počiatek told Hospodárske Noviny.
Remeta confirmed signing a contract for the project worth €410 million. The section should be finished by 2020.
Dúha will build one of the most difficult sections of the D1 cross-country highway between Bratislava and Košice, despite the fact that it is one of the smaller firms in the market. It can, however, benefit from its cooperation with Italian construction company Salini Impregilo. Former investment director of the National Highway Company (NDS) Juraj Čermák told Hospodárske Noviny that without the Italian firm, Dúha would not be able to construct the tunnel.
The stretch is important for the highway so as to avoid the road under Strečno Castle, where traffic jams often occur. The tunnel may shorten the travelling time between Žilina and Vrútky by about 15 minutes.
Moreover, the new road will increase the safety of drivers, said Ľubomír Palčák of the Research Institute of Transport in Žilina.
Dúha also won the competition thanks to the Public Procurement Office (ÚVO) after it dismissed the complaint submitted by Doprastav. The construction firm objected to the previous decision of the NDS to exclude it from the tender because of its participation in a cartel agreement back in 2005, Hospodárske Noviny wrote.
