Šefčovič to run for EC post again
11 Jun 2014 Flash News
SLOVAKIA’s European Commission (EC) representative Maroš Šefčovič will run for his post again for the next term, 2014-2019. The cabinet approved his nomination as Slovakia’s official candidate for the post at its June 11 session, the SITA newswire reported.
In the previous term, Šefčovič served as the Commission’s vice-president and the European Commissioner for Inter-Institutional Relations and Administration. He has been part of the EC since October 1, 2009, following the resignation of Slovakia’s first European Commissioner, Ján Figeľ.
The agendas of the new EC members will be decided by the EC president, still to be elected, who will consult the composition of the commission with the prime ministers and heads of states of the EU member states.
Šefčovič ran as number one on the slate of the ruling Smer party in the recent European Parliament elections and is set to become one of Slovakia’s MEPs if he is not part of the commission.
