Just five of the six candidates for positions on the Constitutional Court showed up for their scheduled interviews conducted by members of the committee set up by President Andrej Kiska, advisor Rado Baťo told the TASR newswire on June 25.
Chairman of the Košice Regional Court Imrich Volkai who was nominated by dean of Košice’s P.J. Šafárik University School of Law Gabriela Dobrovičová declined Kiska’s invitation, according to TASR. No explanation was given. The five candidates who agreed were chairman of the Košice Regional Court senate Juraj Sopoliga, Supreme Court judge Jana Baricová, Nitra Regional Court judge Ján Bernát, public notary and university professor Miroslav Ďuriš and chair of Bratislava I District Court Eva Fulcová.
Volkai is away on holiday, according to information obtained by the SITA newswire.
The six original candidates were approved by parliament.
The experts are obliged to come up with their recommendations by the end of June, at which time Kiska will announce his decision. The recommendations of the committee are not binding. The terms of office of the outgoing judges, Ján Luby, Juraj Horváth and Ján Auxt, expire on July 4.
