Candidates emerge for November municipal elections
17 Jul 2014 Flash News
In Košice, a former member of the Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) Ján Dečo has announced he would run for the post of mayor. Dečo, aged 52, is married and has five children. Currently, he makes business in social services and tourism.
“My candidacy is free and independent form the interests of Bratislava and big political parties and oligarchs,” Dečo said for the SITA newswire on July 16. “I want to focus on the solution of everyday and truly practical problems of Košice residents.”
Apart from him, also Rudolf Bauer runs – for the coalition of centre-right parties – and the incumbent, Richard Raši, who runs for Smer. Dečo deemed Bauer “a representative of the past; while Raši is a representative of the present times”.
In Dubnica nad Váhom, the coalition of ruling Smer, the Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH), and the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) has announced a joint candidate for mayor, the current councillor of the Trenčín Self-governing Region (TSK), Eva Bočincová. The coalition will also nominate candidates for local councillors, the TASR newswire wrote. On July 17, representatives of all three parties signed a declaration on cooperation before the municipal elections, and for 2014-2018.
In the Petržalka borough of Bratislava, manager of the Bytový Podnik Petržalka housing management company, Daniel Šavel, plans to run, as does current councillor on Petržalka and in the Bratislava council, Ján Hrčka (independent, with support of freedom and Solidarity-SaS and Civic Conservative Party-OKS caucus). Lawyer Pavel Nechala who cooperates with Transparency International Slovensko (TIS) is considering a run as civic candidate with support of some political parties. The incumbent Petržalka mayor Vladimír Bajan has so far not officially confirmed he will run again, SITA wrote.
