Matovič calls for publishing the whole recording

IGOR Matovič, chair of the Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) party, has called on Radoslav Procházka to agree with releasing the entire recording of their hour-long conversation in order to eliminate any doubts the recording has been edited to twist Procházka’s statements.

A recording published on the Vimeo website on July 22 allegedly captures a conversation between Matovič and Procházka on murky financing of the latter’s presidential campaign, the TASR newswire wrote. The two voices also discuss the total spending on campaign which appeared to be twice as big as Procházka had officially declared.

Speaking at a press conference held on July 23, Matovič said he needs Procházka’s approval in order to avoid prosecution.

“I call on Rado Procházka to be a man and to confirm that the contents of the recording are true, just like he did when he admitted that the voice on the recording is his,” OĽaNO leader said, as quoted by TASR. “Should he agree I will publish the whole thing as it is, so that everybody can see that nothing on yesterday’s recording has been taken out of context.”

While Matovič confessed to creating the video that includes audio sequences from the secretly recorded conversation between the two, he said that he did not put the recording out. He added that although he did select four separate parts of the conversation, he did not edit these further.

Matovič declined to respond when asked how it is possible that a recording that he had created could be leaked on the internet.

“I am not even thinking about it,” he said, as quoted by TASR. “I will deal with it as soon as we have dealt with the contents of the recording, after the approval for its publishing. This is only to obscure the situation.”

He added that it could happen that the whole conversation will be leaked in the end.

Meanwhile, Richard Sulík, MEP and leader of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), stated that Procházka has lost the moral right to be the leader of the right.

“I think that the recording is authentic and that it was not edited in order to suit somebody’s interests,” Sulík told TASR. “I view this as a sad story. We urged Mr Procházka a couple of weeks ago to respond to all the questions surrounding the funding [of his campaign], but this call has not been answered.”
