SLOVAK soldiers in Afghanistan came under fire at the Kandahar Air Field base on the morning of July 24, but none of them suffered injuries.

“The ECP-5 entrance gate of the Kandahar Air Field base came under fire at around 11:15 local time,” Defence Ministry spokesperson Martina Balleková told the TASR newswire. “Slovak servicemen were also stationed at the base,” said Balleková, adding that all Slovak soldiers are OK.

Slovak soldiers in Afghanistan have come under fire several times. Three Slovaks were killed last year - Daniel Kavuliak during a shooting spree by an Afghani soldier at the Kandahar base, and Patrik Fraštia and Edmund Makovník were killed by a roadside bomb in Kabul in late December.
