THE BRITISH Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic (BCCSR) has elected a new Board of Directors. This highly anticipated vote, which took place on June 30, will have significant implications on the future of the British Slovak Business Centre (BSBC), the chamber and the centre informed in a press release.
The BCCSR was founded in 1998.
The BSBC was founded in March 2014 as a joint endeavour of the British Chamber and the British Government’s United Kingdom Trade & Investment. The main target of the BSBC is to increase British exports to Slovakia, while in turn the chamber is able to provide enhanced business opportunities to its members. The newly appointed team is lead by CEO Christopher Plant, who is also the Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce.
The annual general meeting of the chamber held on June 30 in Bratislava ushered in the next phase of the BCCSR and its 2014-2016 period. At this event, the British Chamber also unveiled a series of major projects that are currently underway, including the Social Media Awareness campaign, the British-Slovak business magazine, the CEE Business Digital Platform, and an interview series.
The new Board of Directors is the strongest Board of Directors to date and is poised to make substantial progress in British-Slovak bilateral relations, the press release reads. Sitting members include Quentin Crossley of KPMG, Hugh Owen of Allen & Overy and Jana Pagáčová of Squire Patton Boggs. New appointees include Michal Dyttert of Tesco Stores; Matthew Farthing of the British International School Bratislava, Zuzana Remrová of GlaxoSmithKline; and Andrew Thompson of Cushman & Wakefield.
“Together, the British Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic and its subsidiary, the British Slovak Business Centre, aim to continue encouraging positive British-Slovak business relations,” Plant told The Slovak Spectator. “As the BSBC discerns new business opportunities for British business in Slovakia, the doors to the Chamber of Commerce are always open to member Slovak businesses looking to create a bridge to the United Kingdom.”
