Nesrovnal: I am not leaving SDKÚ, for now
31 Jul 2014 Flash News
THE SLOVAK Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) candidate for Bratislava mayor and current head of city SDKÚ caucus, Ivo Nesrovnal, does not plan to leave his party for now, he told the TASR newswire.
On July 31, SDKÚ should announce whether it will join the Bratislava coalition before the November municipal election with the centre-right parties Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), NOVA, Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) and Most-Híd, or not. Its decision depends also on the will of Nesrovnal to stay within SDKÚ or leave. The SDKÚ city coordination committee meets on the evening of July 31.
The potential for Nesrovnal leaving the party has started to be an issue after he had got an offer to join the Sieť party of Radoslav Procházka. The latter told journalists, however, that Sieť will not decide on supporting Nesrovnal as a candidate for mayor based on him leaving SDKÚ or staying, but rather due to the quality of his agenda and the ability to implement it.
“Sieť has never pushed – and will never do – on anyone to go against his conviction and do some mental somersaults,” Procházka said, as quoted by TASR. “… If we support him, it will not be conditioned by him leaving; this will be his personal decision. If we won’t support him, then definitely not because of him staying in the SDKÚ or not.”
Centre-right parties in Bratislava try to form a coalition for city councillors, but are not unified in the question who shall run for mayor. SDKÚ has so far pushed forward Ivo Nesrovnal, while KDH champions Milan Kňažko. SaS allegedly cannot imagine supporting Kňažko.
