Insurance claims start rolling in after thunderstorm
5 Aug 2014 Flash News
THE SEVERE thunderstorm that swept across Bratislava on August 3 caused damage to property worth hundreds of thousands of euros, insurance companies active in Slovakia informed.
Allianz-Slovenská Poisťovňa has recorded 72 reports of damage since August 3, mostly concerning flooded cellars in houses and blocks of flats.
“Clients also reported damage to electrical wiring due to lightning strikes, while the roof of one farm building collapsed and sewage systems were flooded,” said Artur Šturmankin, the company’s corporate communications specialist, as quoted by the TASR newswire. “The hail caused damage to cars, vineyards and crops.”
The insurer estimates the damage at over €190,000 for now, and expects more claims to come in over the next few days.
ČSOB Poisťovňa spokesperson Zuzana Eliášová said that the insurer has received claims concerning water flooding living rooms via other closed rooms and the flooding of basement areas. She added that the company is currently completing its examination of claims filed in response to the floods in Žilina Region two weeks ago. The insurer has already completed four fifths of the claims, as reported by TASR.
Damage from the thunderstorm in Bratislava reported to Komunálna Poisťovňa has so far amounted to around €12,000. This mainly concerns parts of flooded homes and damaged cars and company property. The company’s PR specialist, Daniela Šulcová, noted that this is just an initial estimate and that the company expects more claims to come in, TASR wrote.
Also, Generali has reported its 30 first claims related to the thunderstorm. The damages are expected to reach nearly €39,000, and include flooded residential and non-residential spaces, as well as damage caused by lightning, the company’s spokesperson, Lucia Makayová, told TASR.
Kooperative has so far registered about 22 claims, with damages at about €50,000. The insurer expects more claims to come, TASR reported.
