6 Aug 2014 Flash News
Shooting could be heard on July 5 in the streets of Liptovský Mikuláš and one policeman was injured, according to the Čas.sk website. The confrontation came as they detained a former policeman, Ján A, over alleged robbery.
Ján A. is accused of involvement in several robberies in the Liptov region. Two of the robberies took place last autumn when he allegedly participated in stealing from two shops in the municipality of Važec, taking meal vouchers worth €700 in one case and cash worth €400 in the second. He is also accused of other robberies, in Pribylina and in Ludrová. Other suspects from the robberies are already detained.
Police closed several streets and considered their former colleague dangerous, as he is an expert in martial arts and appears to be armed.
Ján. A, aged 31, comes from the municipality of Žiar and has been wanted since last September.
After and 11 hour siege, the ex-policeman was detained on August 6 around 5:00 thanks to more than 50 special police officers. He was entrenched on his parents’ home in downtown Liptovský Mikuláš and repeatedly fired a gun, the TASR newswire wrote.
