Nesrovnal to stay in SDKÚ, wants support of broad centre-right coalition
7 Aug 2014 Flash News
Candidate for Bratislava mayor Ivo Nesrovnal (Slovak Democratic and Christian Union-SDKÚ) rejected the rumours that he might jump ship and join the Sieť party, according to his statement released on August 6.
“I still vie for the support of broad centre-right coalition,” Nesrovnal said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. “Bratislava needs to form a strong right-wing coalition, so that as strong an alternative as possible to incumbent leftist mayor Milan Ftáčnik can be offered.”
Procházka claimed, however, that Sieť is not contemplating to put its support behind him based on whether or not he stays in SDKÚ but on the merits and quality of his programme and ability to promote it. “Sieť has never forced and will not force anyone to go against their beliefs and perform some [moral] somersaults," Procházka said at the end of July.
Nesrovnal is currently the head of the Bratislava Council’s SDKÚ and Most-Híd caucus, the SITA newswire wrote. Other candidates for Bratislava mayor include the incumbent Milan Ftáčnik (elected with the support of the ruling Smer party; now running as independent civic candidate so far), independent Milan Kňažko and photographer Andrej Palacko.
