Roma leader says he will lead protests directed at Pollák
11 Aug 2014 Flash News
NOTHING has changed for the Roma in 22 years and millions of euros from the EU funds have never reached the Roma as they were meant to, František Tanko, the chairman of the Roma Union Party in Slovakia (SRÚS) charged at a press conference on August 11 as reported by the TASR newswire.
The party is thus preparing demonstrations in Slovakia’s towns in September and October to call for the solution to the problems of Roma and for better use of the EU funds for this purpose.
“We have also sent a letter to Prime Minister Robert Fico on July 2 to consider whether Peter Pollák should remain in the post of the government’s proxy for Roma communities, because chaos rules there,” Tanko said as quoted by TASR, adding that Fico hasn’t responded yet.
Pollák in his reaction for TASR accused Tanko of being yet another Roma politician who want to make a business out of the Roma problems.
“This is proved by the fact that he requested administrative support for his party from me,” Pollak told TASR. “When I refused, Mr Tanko was suddenly turned into a critic, even though he supported many measures at the start.”
