Industrial production up in July

THE INDUSTRIAL production index rose 4.4 percent year-on-year in July. It was affected mostly by the 7.7-percent increase in mining and quarrying, 4.5-percent increase in manufacturing, and 2.4-percent increase in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply, the Statistics Office (ŠÚ) informed on September 11.

THE INDUSTRIAL production index rose 4.4 percent year-on-year in July. It was affected mostly by the 7.7-percent increase in mining and quarrying, 4.5-percent increase in manufacturing, and 2.4-percent increase in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply, the Statistics Office (ŠÚ) informed on September 11.

The increase in the total industrial production was influenced especially by the growth in manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 15 percent; manufacture of electrical equipment by 13.3 percent; manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 16.3 percent; manufacture of transport equipment by 2.3 percent and other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 13.3 percent. On the other hand, the production was reduced in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 19.8 percent and in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 24.2 percent, according to ŠÚ.

Regarding the main industrial groupings, the increase was recorded in production of durable consumer goods by 32 percent, production of intermediate goods by 8.4 percent, and production of investment goods by 2.7 percent. Production of non-durable consumer goods dropped by 6.2 percent and production related to energy by 0.6 percent.

After seasonal adjustment, industrial production grew by 0.1 percent in July compared with the previous month.

On average, over the first seven months of 2014, the industrial production index grew by 5.4 percent y/y, mostly due to the increase in manufacturing by 8 percent, mining and quarrying by 1.8 percent. Production was lower in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 11.6 percent y/y.

The total increase of industrial production was affected by a growth in manufacture of transport equipment by 9 percent; manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 12.7 percent; manufacture of electrical equipment by 23 percent; other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 19.5 percent; and in manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 8.5 percent. Production dropped mainly in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 20.2 percent and in manufacture of textiles, apparel, leather and related products by 11.9 percent, ŠÚ data showed.

Regarding the main industrial groupings, production of durable consumer goods rose by 19.1 percent, production of intermediate goods by 10 percent and production of investment goods by 8.9 percent. On the other hand, the production related to energy was down by 12.5 percent and production of non-durable consumer goods by 4.3 percent.
