NEW application for smart-phones GobyPet can help save abandoned, lost or abused animals.

Pavla Barineková of the PBR company told the SITA newswire that the app enables users to take a photo of the animal, localise it and send information to the next rescue shelter or volunteers. The Slovak Alliance of Animals Protectors (SAOZ) lent their experience to develop the application.

“Our goal was not just to create a tool for supporting the salvation of animals, but also to disclose torture and illegal kennels and breeders, and to create a platform for more effective collaboration between all sides involved in saving animals, especially pets,” Tibor Rečka, head of the GobyPet project, told SITA in mid-October. He explained that now it is enough to take a picture of the pet, and send it to a shelter or volunteers who will then take care of the animal. It is also possible to report suspicions of tormenting or illegally breeding excessive amounts of pups in bad conditions.
