CZECH railway carrier RegioJet has launched the sale of fares for trains that will be running from Bratislava through Žilina to Košice on December 14.

Spokeswoman Petra Nováková said that people can buy the tickets via the website of ZSSK or at RegioJet and Student Agency branches. The trains will run three times a day on a return rail, the TASR newswire wrote.

The trains to Košice will be dispatched on the commercial basis, without state subsidy. The company has already been operating the route between Bratislava and Komárno. These trains, however, run also thanks to state subsidy, as reported by TASR.

The Sme daily wrote that the cheapest ticket from Bratislava and Košice route will cost €9 for Standard class. Higher classes then cost €18 for Relax class and €23.40 for Business class. The ticket to a bus operated by Student Agency currently costs €18.

State-run carrier ZSSK offers the tickets for IC trains in second class for €24. The price is lower if the passengers buy it sooner, Sme wrote.

The daily also reported that ZSSK does not want to start price war with RegioJet. ZSSK’s spokeswoman Jana Morháčová did not want to comment on the prices of the tickets.
