Fico wants a second social package in 2015

PRIME Minister Robert Fico said the government will present in 2015 a second social package that should help in particular weaker social groups, the SITA newswire reported on November 27.

PRIME Minister Robert Fico said the government will present in 2015 a second social package that should help in particular weaker social groups, the SITA newswire reported on November 27.

“We will continue with tough measures as far as tax evasion and tax collection is concerned,” Fico said, as quoted by SITA. “I am convinced that even in 2015 we will be able to create a package, maybe at the level of 200 - 250 million euros, which we will in turn transform into the second positive social package. And I believe that the Slovak public will gladly accept the measures that are now being prepared.”

Fico said in the Parliament during the regular Question Hour that Smer is considering next year, for example, on how to help people who commute to work.

“In order to reduce even more their costs associated with commuting,” he said, as quoted by SITA.

Fico commended several measures from the first social package he introduced in late June at the Smer congress. According to him, the higher minimum wage will help employees as well as employment growth.

“I reject accusations that setting of the minimum wage fails to respect economic reality,” Fico stated, as quoted by SITA, adding that he equally appreciated the increase in Christmas pensions.

Fico also reiterated the statement about the double-digit reduction in gas prices for households for a few months.

“Our ambition in 2015 and 2016 is to reduce the gas price for household by a two-digit number,” Fico said, as quoted by SITA. “It is a goal that is related to the fact that we bought the parent company of SPP and we got pricing under control.”
