THE SLOVAK Centre of Visual Arts (SCVU), which houses the Kunsthalle in Bratislava, has a new director. The seven-member committee picked art historian Juraj Čarný, the TASR newswire reported.

Čarný, who was leading the institution also between January and June, will be appointed to the post soon. The SCVU is currently led by its chief curator Richard Gregor.

There were altogether three candidates for the post. All of them had to submit a written concept proposing how to manage and develop the institution over the following five years, and also undergo an oral interview with the members of the committee, TASR wrote.

The SCVU was established on January 1, 2014, while the Kunsthalle launched its operation on September 19. It presents the works of current Slovak and foreign visual artists. It resides in the House of Art in Bratislava, and belongs to the National Edifying Centre, established by the Culture Ministry.
