GINGERBREAD-MAKER from Trenčín, Mária Muráriková, again ranked well at the international gastronomy forum: with her bee-themed gingerbread, she won a prestigious award in the category of artistic confectioner at the World Cup in Luxembourg.

The work, called SOS, is a message to save bees, and the jury awarded it with a silver medal from among 200 contestants. The world cup took place between November 22 and 26, after the Confectioners’ Olympics which takes place once every four years; it is the second most important global event.

In total, there were about 1,700 participants. Muráriková told the TASR newswire that her recent work is a desperate call to save the bees. She was inspired by the quotation of Albert Einstein saying that if bees die out, humankind will as well. The gingerbread consists of three parts – it shows the birth of a bee, its life, and also a warning describing how much beauty people have been able to destroy.

Muráriková laboured on the awarded work for 300 hours, excluding the time for study. The gingerbread weighed about 20 kilograms, while she needed 50 eggs and three kilograms of honey.

The recipe cannot be amiss, it all must be prepared in the necessary way, all ingredients must be added, Muráriková said, adding that she makes all gingerbread works according to classical recipes, used traditionally for Christmas gingerbread.

The World Cup in Luxembourg was the 7th event in a row where Muráriková presented her confectionery art: she has two gold medals from Olympiads, and in total, she has received 11 gold, two silver and one bronze medal from top global gastronomy competitions.
