After several years break, ski resort on a slope close to the biggest housing estate in the town of Liptovský Mikuláš, Podbreziny, is open for the second consecutive year.

The resort can be operated mainly thanks to the town’s subsidy of €15,000 annually. In 2014, the weather conditions marred the skiing, but now frosts helped the organisers to make good conditions, head of the Association of Sport Clubs Jasná miroslav Lobo told the TASR newswire. (Jasná is a nearby holiday/ski resort in Low Tatras.)

The town ski resort was built in 1992 as one of the first in Slovakia with artificial snow making. However, the financial troubles caused the ski resort to be closed. The main goal of the association is to make skiing available to as many schoolchildren as possible, to get them used to regular physical exercise. The ski lift operates in the afternoons on workdays and all day long on weekends and holidays.
