The transcript of refused homily published

THE AKTUALITY.sk website published a transcript of the controversial sermon of Greek Catholic priest Rastislav Baka which the regional Radio Regina refused to broadcast as it, in its opinion, violated the rules for broadcast before a referendum. The public-service Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) has not confirmed the authenticity of the transcript yet.

Baka claimed that in the West children are stolen from Slavic families. One woman even had to flee from Norway because she lost her son there, the priest said, as reported by the Sme daily.

“Children are goods there, the real biological mother in Europe does not mean anything in Europe, the gays, homosexuals and paedophiles have the rights, not mothers and fathers,” Baka claims, according to the transcript.

He called on people to build “an iron curtain to such tolerance and distortion” and to “push that dirt behind the borders”, Sme reported.

He also mentioned the unverified case from a school in Košice. One of the parents claimed that the students of the ninth grade were forced to show sexual positions between a man and a woman, but also between same-sex couples. The school at the time published a statement, saying that no school or teacher would dare to do something similar, according to Sme.

The public-service Radio Regina wanted to cut some parts of the homily. When Baka disagreed, it decided not to broadcast the liturgy at all. RTVS explained that the homily was at odds with the rules for broadcasting before the referendum, and that some claims were close to hate speech.

The broadcaster now says that it cannot confirm or disprove the veracity of the transcript without the consent of the church. Though it has already asked for permission, it has not received any answer, Sme wrote.

Spokesperson for the Prešov Archdiocese Ľubomír Petrík did not say whether the text is true or whether they already received the RTVS requests.

“We are waiting for the broadcast of the whole liturgy including an uncut homily,” Petrík told Sme. “Any other solution is unauthentic.”
