Roma leader gets prison time for vote buying scam

ONE LEADER of the Roma community in Veľký Meder, a town in the Trnava region, Štefan Faton will spend eight months in prison due to buying of votes in 2014 European Parliament election. His daughter-in-law Slávka received four months for assistance.

The Supreme Court confirmed the verdit on April 15. 

“I am really sorry for what I have done and there is nothing more which I can say about it,” Faton said, as quoted by the Sme daily.

Faton approached Feedom and Solidarity (SaS) member Jana Cigániková offering her from 4,000 to 5,5000 votes of Roma from Veľký Meder and its surrounding villages. He wanted €4 per vote.

Cigániková reported the offer to the police, which detained Faton with his daughter-in-law during the money transaction in park on April 8, 2014.
