Pohoda festival: Manu Chao asked for massage, Björk for yoga

THE MULTI-GENRE festival Bažant Pohoda opens its 19th year on Thursday. Over the course of three days, Trenčín airport will see dozens of foreign and Slovak artists perform, including Björk, Manu Chao La Ventura, Die Antwoord, Spain's Seward troupe; and local acts SĽUK, Korben Dallas, Polemic, Para and Puding pani Elvisovej.

Manu Chao arrived one day earlier, and asked for a massage, the Sme daily wrote. He also asked organisers to be allowed to sleep at the airport, like the organising team. Björk, who is to stay for four days, wants to take yoga lessons, according to Sme.

The festival opens Thursday evening with the Slovak band Para, followed by Bez ladu a skladu and the headliner of the evening, Manu Chao, the TASR newswire wrote.

Non-musical projects include the European Commission representation in Slovakia’s EUrópa Stage and EÚ informačná zóna. The EUrópa Stage will offer manifold music from all over the world, theatre and discussions. The info zóne will render information about travel possibilities, volunteering, study or work in the European Union, competitions and “EU Wheel of Fortune”.

The Visegrad Fund, roofing the four Visegrad countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, has prepared Visegrad Club of alternative electronic music, and the installation of works by winners of the Public Art Festival Contest.

Pasrt of the festival is also the “cinema bus”, the Bažant Kinematograf project, offering this year “A Hard Day´s Night” about Beatles, by Richard Lester from 1964, Czech movie Postřižiny (1980) and a film commemoration of Amy Winehouse in a special Slovak pre-premiere: the documentary Amy (2014); as well as a feature film “38” about late Slovak ice-hockey legend Pavol Demitra.   

There will be a special train dispatched from two cities, Bratislava and Košice, for a reduced price; the return ride will take place on July 12, at 11:00 (to Košice) and 12:00 (to Bratislava).
