Kiska spoke with Ukraine’s President about gas supplies

SLOVAK President Andrej Kiska talked to his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on the phone on September 3 and congratulated him on Ukraine's recent Independence Day which is celebrated annually on August 24, the TASR newswire learnt from the president’s office.

Kiska also stressed that Slovakia will continue to provide gas supplies to its eastern neighbour.

“A sovereign, independent and stable Ukraine is not only in the interest of the Ukrainian people, but also in the interest of Slovakia. Slovakia will continue to endorse Ukraine in its efforts to join the European Union,” said Kiska, as quoted by SITA.

The two officials also discussed the latest developments in eastern Ukraine and the state of affairs in the reform process in the country.

Poroshenko recognised Slovakia’s help to Ukraine to date, and asked for the gas supplies to continue, as they are important for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and economy.
