He announced his decision at a press conference held with Health Minister Viliam Čislák, who accepted his resignation.

“I appreciate this gesture,” Čislák said, as quoted by the Sme daily.

The decision came after suspicions emerged that Forai preferred seven companies where his aunt Anna Součková is a partner. Miroslav Beblavý of the non-parliamentary Sieť party backed his accusations with 69 agreements worth €14 million which VšZP has signed with these companies since 2012.

If the investigation which is led by the Health Care Supervisory Authority proves Forai is innocent, he will be reappointed to his position, Čislák stressed, as reported by Sme.

For now, VšZP will be led by the remaining members of the board of directors, Antónia Borovková and Miroslav Vaďura.

“If Čislák wants to alleviate suspicion, he should also approve the CT and MR contracts, which the health insurer led by Forai signed with the companies linked to Anna Součková, to be checked,” commented Zuzana Dančíková of Transparency International ethics watchdog, as quoted by the Denník N daily.

He should also ask VšZP to publish the analysis upon which the agreements were signed, she added.
