CINEMA: Febiofest 2016 – International Festival of Film clubs will show Academy Award nominees and also movies awarded at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. A selection of this film marathon will be performed in cinemas of nine Slovak towns. A favourite of audiences section – Cinema Jukebox organised by the ASFK (Association of Slovak Film Clubs) – will consist of previews of films from all over the world. Febiofest will show movies nominated for Oscars, e.g. Danish movie A War by Tobias Lindholm or French movie Mustang directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, or a movie awarded at Cannes – The Treasure – directed by Corneliu Porumboiu well-known as  “the tease of Romanian New Wave”. LIVE MUSIC: Levi – A new blues and soul band will perform as a part of a unique project "Rock in the Museum". Multi-genre band Levi was created in Krakow in 2013. Their music is a mixture of blues, rock, soul, funk, gospel and jazz. Lead singer Ewa Novel is the main personality of the band. Members are also Bartek Luczyński (harmonica), Grzegorz Skoczylas (guitar), Tomasz Budek (bass) and Andrij „Vedomyr“ Wolynko (percussion). Levi won in all categories at the prestigious festival „Galicja Blues festival“ in 2013, and a year later the band performed at the world famous festival Sziget in Budapest. LIVE MUSIC: Country & Western Saloon – Current American country music will be performed by country-rock band Texas. A dance band Step Bridge will show tap dance and visitors will be invited to attend the workshop Western Dance. Henna Painting is prepared by Zuzana Michalcová for ladies, and all visitors can participate in Driving Oracle. Route 66 Cantina offers a taste of a Bratislava steak restaurant. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Beethoven, Godár – Performers of this concert are Slovak Philharmonic, Slovak Philharmonic Choir and Bratislava Boys’ Choir/ Bratislavský chlapčenský zbor, as led by conductor Alexander Rahbari, choirmasters Jozef Chabroň and Magdaléna Rovňáková. Other performers are Christopher Hinterhuber (piano), Helena Becse-Szabó (soprano), and Peter Mikuláš (bass); performing piano concerts by Ludwig van Beethoven – Piano Concerto no. 2 in B Flat Major, Op. 19 and by Slovak composer Vladimír Godár – Orbis Sensualium Pictus. CLASSICAL MUSIC: The Music of Famous Composers in Bratislava – This concert presents works of composers who had some kind of connection to Slovakia and its capital via their music. The goal of this project of the Bratislava Chamber Opera is to spread knowledge and the image of music, culture and history in Bratislava as a coronation city of Marie Therese before 1830. WORLD MUSIC: Carrousel (SUI) - After more than 450 concerts played in Switzerland and abroad since 2009 the band Carrousel will perform in Slovakia. Members are Sophie Burande (vocals, accordion, melodica, small instruments), Léonard Gogniat (vocals, guitars), Mathieu Friz (keyboards, guitar), Thierry Cattin (drums, percussion), Christian Bron (bass). GAME FESTIVAL: Anime Show 2016 & Game Expo 2016 – This year of this multi-genre festival brings a variety of sections(anime, comics, manga; Japanese culture; sci-fi, fantasy & horror; artworks, games, karaoke, cosplay, DDR, board games, PC games, card games and L.A.R.P, and more), as well as tea culture, typical gastronomy, etc. in three days. BALLET: From Fairytale to Fairytale - This is the most famed ballet by Czech composer Oskar Nedbal. From Fairytale to Fairytale, as choreographed by Achille Viscusi for the 1923/1924 season, was the first performance for children at the SND. BLUES: Livin’ Blues 2016 – The 24th year of this festival hailing the popular genre presents an attractive and interesting programme, mostly focusing on Slovak southern blues, old school with interpretation of the most popular blues standards, dark Moravian soul, and earthy blues with “beefhertov-style” vocals. Performers include Feri Šajtoš and his blues-rock band Joint Venture from Nové Zámky, Old School Band, ZVA 12-28 Band, Petra Poláková with Mothers Follow Chairs, Polish Gruff! and US guitarist Leburn Maddox. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Solamente Naturali – Bach: Johns’ Passion – Another concert of the J.S. Bach cycle offers Johannespassion, version from 1725, reminding of the upcoming Easter time. Solamente Naturali ensemble playing early music on replicas of period instruments will be led by Miloš Valent; Vocal Ensemble SoLa, and Evangelist Jan Petryka. CAT SHOW: International Cat Show – The spring cat show will bring feline beauties from Slovakia and abroad, including the Best In Show competition of nominated animals for the primacy in FIFe categories. REGGAE: Flight to Jamaica – After a long break, the 2-stage indoor festival takes place; a festival full of the best reggae and dub, all under the same roof. The spring edition Flight to Jamaica will support sound-system Dub Settlers hi-fi; with an exclusive new film focused on the sound-system culture in the Czech and Slovak Republics called A Year of Dub 2; live band; foreign headliner; vegan food; vinyl distro, and more. LIVE MUSIC: Unexpected – Drums, bass, house, neuro, trap, electro and dubstep. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Easter Concert – Performers are the Slovak Chamber Orchestra (SKO) Bohdan Warchal, led by Ewald Danel, first violin.  The repertoire consists of The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross, Hob. CLASSICAL MUSIC/HAPPENING: Bach in the Subways – This happening strives to celebrate the 331st anniversary of the famous composer, J.S. Bach, for the first time in Slovakia – in the capital, at three sites. Originated in 2011 in NY – thanks to Dale Henderson, while in 2015, it took place in 69 cities of 23 countries worldwide. Starts: March 21, 8:00-18:00; Main (railway) Station, subway/underpass at Trnavské Mýto and Hodžovo Square. DANCE: Hedy – A solo for one woman and two men, this is a description of contemporary dance in the Slovak National Theatre. The performance is about beauty, fame, the intensity of life, about focusing on the present reality and many other aspects of life, as seen through the story of famed actress of the early days of film, Hedy Lamarr (born as Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Austria). CLASSICAL MUSIC: Easter Concert J. S. Bach - Performers are Jiří Bárta (cello), Štefan Bučko (spoken word). OPERA: Don Giovanni - Opera of the operas, experts tend to call this work composed by W. A. Mozart. The opera is conducted by Friedrich Haider, directed by Jozef Bednárik, choreographed by Jaroslav Moravčík and choirmaster is Ladislav Kaprinay. BALLET: Swan Lake - Ballet in three acts and four scenes. An oeuvre from P.I. Tchaikovsky is certainly the most famous title of the ballet repertoire. The romantic story of  prince Siegfried and beautiful princess Odetta utterly changed into a swan is the basis of the Classical Russian Ballet School. This time, the ballet is conducted by Martin Leginus, choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev I. Ivanov, rehearsed by Rafael Avnikjan, with ballet masters Mária Kupcová, Igor Holováč, Nora Gallovičová. Performers are Maria Rudenko, Artemyj Pyzhov, Yuki Kaminaka, and others. OPERA: Nabucco - Opera in three acts in Italian language by Guiseppe Verdi. Nabucco is conducted by Jaroslav Kyzlink, directed by Zuzana Gilhuus. Choirmaster is Ladislav Kaprinay. LANGUAGE/MEETING: Month of Francophony – March is annually a month of French language and culture when the French Institute organises a series of events and tries to popularise this language in Slovakia. A week of French films, Crème de la Crème, exhibitions, presentations and performances from this Francophony Month in 2016. A complex set of films divided into 4 sections (Crème de la Crème contemporary, Homecomings, 3xMarion and For Children) will be presentedbetween March 10 and 16 in cinemas across the city (Film Europe, Mladosť, Lumiere) within Crème de la Crème. EXHIBITION: Strach z neznámeho / Fear of the Unknown – The migration crisis which we are facing is the most serious since the WW2. Millions of people have to leave their homes because of war or extreme poverty. The experience with other cultures is new and practically unknown for the post-communist countries. This exhibition is trying to break the barrier in communication between them. The native and foreign artists are focusing on refugees and our attitude towards them. EXHIBITION: On the Freakshow - Andy Pheby Paintings – Andy Pheby is a contemporary figurative painter who portrays people or things that can stand for people – benches, objects, animals. Chance plays a role in many works where liquid paint is pooled and thrown across the work. Pheby is influenced by painters such as Manet and Goya, whom he refers to in his work, as well as the colours used in Indian miniatures. EXHIBITION: Hľadanie identity / Searching for Identity – The art of painter with Slovak origin Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan, representative of the period between the two world wars in art, can be seen in the Mirbach Palace. He created expressionist paintings of Slovak rural areas in Orava, Liptov and Turiec. He was born as a Jew, but diex as a Christian in a Nazi concentration camp. All his life, the author was searching for his own identity. The exhibition seeks to present his work to the public, based on numerous image- and documentary materials. EXHIBITION: Caricature and Jazz – The exhibition focused on the blending of jazz and cartoon was presented as a support event of Dodo Šošoka Festival in Piešťany (commemorating the jazzman of this name). In Ticho you can see a complex set of cartoons created during five years according to the concept of Bobo Pernecký. PHOTO EXHIBITION: World War I – The Central-European House of Photography (SEDF) presents the third part in a series of international exhibitions from WW1. The series of photos called Red Poppy Fields are reflections of these terrible times in Europe. EXHIBITION: Spiders and Scorpions – More than 40 living animal species with safe inaccessible glass terrariums can be seen, cameras are allowed. Among other species, people can see one of the most dangerous spiders, the black widow (Lathrodectus mactans), the biggest one (Theraphosa stirmi) and the large scorpion (Pandinus imperator). The exhibition corrects widespread myths and mistaken facts about these species. EXHIBITION: Silent and Glass / Ticho a sklo – Exhibition hailing almost 25 years of the existence of this private gallery focused on glass presents several generations of glass artists - the best works of students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava-VŠVU – and their works which are diverse, with a wide spectrum of technological and philosophical variations in design and creation. EXHIBITION: The Little Prince – This book was published April 6, 1943 in New York and shortly afterwards also in French edition with illustrations. The Little Prince is the most famous work by writer, poet and pilot Antoin de Saint-Exupéry. Twenty original colour lithographs by the author come from the collection of German collector Michael Andreas Wahle.
