Weather Institute: Hailstorms forecast for Slovakia on July 28

Hailstorms are forecast for most of Slovakia on Thursday, July 28.

The Slovak Hydro-meteorological Office (SHMÚ) issued a first level alert that is to last in Banská Bystrica, Trenčín, Košice, Prešov and Žilina regions until 22:00.

The meteorologists warn that hailstones might be accompanied with heavy storms of short duration that could see the precipitation level as high as 50 milimetres. Wind velocities are expected to reach up to 75 kilometres per hour.

Moreover, water levels of rivers might overflow and cellars as well as underpasses could be flooded, the TASR newswire quoted the SHMÚ warning.
